Praise and Worship – Philippians 1:18b-21

Yes, and I will rejoice, 19 for I know that through your prayers and the help of the Spirit of Jesus Christ this will turn out for my deliverance, 20 as it is my eager expectation and hope that I will not be at all ashamed, but that with full courage now as always Christ will be honored in my body, whether by life or by death. 21 For to me to live is Christ, and to die is gain. (emphasis mine)

Paul wrote these words, and I’d like to highlight two ideas. 1 – He knows that his success will be riding on the back of their prayers and 2 – for him, living – every part and in every way – IS Christ.

If the Apostle Paul knew that the prayers of others were essential for his success as a preacher and church planter, then how much more we need prayer! We may not be planting a church, but we are living out the gospel as our neighbors and co-workers watch us. Being a Day2Pray church demonstrates you understand this and have answered the call to pray! Notice also Paul was asking a church to pray for another church! You know of other churches in your town – let’s pray for other churches to be a glorious profound witness for Christ in our area. Imagine if every church was doing what Paul asked churches to do for him. City-wide transformation would be the result!

Paul says that through your prayers and the help of the Spirit, Jesus will be honored in his body. Pray for yourself, your family (and those on this prayer guide) to be filled with the Holy Spirit each day. Then pray for the church down the street to be filled with the Holy Spirit. As we seek His Face and depend on His Spirit we will be able to honor and glorify Him in all we do and pray.

Paul then said for him to live IS Christ. Can we live in this manner by the strength of our self-discipline? No! We can only be the image bearer of Jesus when filled with the Spirit of God. Jesus told us we would be the temple of His Spirit. Through the prayers of others and our submitting ourselves to Jesus as Savior and Lord we become His Bride – People able to live IN Christ and even to live AS Christ.

Praying for Whatcom County & the World

Art & Media                   Philippians 4:8

  • There has been a very significant increase in Christian films and streaming programming in the last few years. Pray for the message of Jesus as Savior to be clear and widespread.
  • The animated film “Light of the Word” will be in theaters (here in Bellingham and around the world) on Sept 5. Pray for this look at Jesus’ life through the eyes of the youngest disciple, John to impact many families and encourage kids to share the story with their friends.

Business                         Colossians 3:23

  • Pray for wisdom and revelation (Eph 1:17-18) for Christian businesses in a constantly changing market and economy.
  • Pray for individuals to gather co-workers to meet in the business to pray before the workday begins.

Church                            Luke 18:1

  • Pray for more churches to become Day2Pray churches. Pray that each church would be committed to praying strategically and consistently for the Church of Whatcom County.
  • Pray that every church in the county will commit to raising a canopy of prayer over all children from physical, emotional and spiritual harm. Psalm 91

Development              Matthew 7:12 and Exodus 23:7

  • Pray for ministries and businesses that promote life. Pray for the message to be clear in our community that every life is sacred and important to God.
  • Pray for all those who are counseling that the message of God’s love and His desire for a relationship will be evident.

Education                      Proverbs 20:7

  • Pray for our families and that our fathers would rise up and lead in their homes, especially those that know the Lord. Pray that drugs and alcohol will not control and compromise our parents and their families. Pray that families will come to know the Lord. When this happens, we see huge changes in our students. Pray for our current teachers and that they will come to know the Lord in a personal way. Pray that more men of God will desire to become teachers and role models for future generations.

Family                              Malachi 4:5-6

  • Pray for families who trust in God and believe in Jesus as the Savior to experience restoration. One of the signs of restoration is the uniting of families. The family unit is central to God’s mission, and the relationships within the family represent God’s relationships with His church.
  • Pray for families to trust Jesus to create a family devotion / prayer time and to restore the family alter.

Government                 Exodus 18:21

Ex 18:21 – “ But select from all the people some capable, honest men [and women] who fear God and hate bribes. Appoint them as leaders over groups of one thousand, one hundred, fifty, and ten.

  • Pray that believers will vote in our county elections and we will be informed voters, especially in considering the twelve measures on the ballot submitted by the Charter Review Commission.

Health                              Ephesians 3:14-15

  • Pray that all clinics are able to find the clinical support staff that they need.
  • Pray for the encouragement of our physical and mental healthcare community – including first responders. Pray each one will experience the strengthening of their inner person according to Ephesians 3:14-15.

International Missions/Israel/Native Americans

Great Commission                  Acts 16:14

  • Praise from Project 92: over the course of 3 months, our partner ministries reported nearly 5,700 first-time decisions for Christ, nearly 1.450 baptisms, and almost 800,000 pieces of gospel literature that were distributed in outreach!
  • Pray that God would lead the missionaries to the hearts prepared to receive the gospel tracts, and that each pamphlet will reach several families.

Israel                               

  • Pray for a ‘sudden’ end to the war Israel has been in with many of her neighboring countries. Pray this ending of hostilities will come with a vast sharing of the gospel of Jesus Christ!

Native Americans                    1 Corinthians 3:6

  • Pray for church planting and Houses of Prayer to be established among the Lummi and Nooksack tribes – that God would give the growth and receive all the praise.
  • Praise God for the Nooksack Royal Bethel Chapel now having meetings.

Pray for your neighborhood – your Family, Church, Schools.

  • Pray for your pastor(s), school staff, mechanic, doctor, store checker, all those with whom you rub shoulders. You know many names and some of their stories. Pray that they will know that Jesus loves them. Ask God for the opportunity to share your Jesus-story with them. Romans 13:10
